Leon Kirchner, described as, “sometimes grumpy, permanently inspired,” passed away in 2009 at the age of 90. wrote piano music for Fleisher while at the same time being incredibly critical of Fleisher’s playing. It is a testament to both that the cult of personality never mattered much to either, even if it sometimes turned its narcissistic gaze upon them.
This recording is essential to understanding both artists.
