Leon Fleisher

As Fleisher and Szell were recording the complete Beethoven Piano Concertos with the Cleveland Orchestra, they set to record beautifully warm and passionate recordings of the piano concertos of Edvard Grieg and Robert Schumann. In listening to these recordings again, now that they’ve been released yet again, but with superb sound, I’m struck by how perfectly these artists sound together. Whether it was Szell’s making or the sound engineers, there is an unified sound concept that is rarely evident between soloist, conductor and orchestra.
