Music Director Donato Cabrera interviews cellist, Oliver Herbert.
Oliver Herbert is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Carter Brey and Peter Wiley. Performing a wide range of repertoire, his recent solo and recital appearances include debuts with the San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, to name a few. Herbert’s most recent competition awards include a top prize and special prize in the XI Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition in 2018, first prize and Pablo Casals prize in the 2015 Irving M. Klein International String Competition, and a top prize in the 2015 Stulberg International String Competition. He recently made his recording debut in collaboration with pianist Xiaohui Yang, of cello sonatas by Gabriel Fauré and Leoš Janáček’s Pohádka (Fairy Tale).
