Nancy Wilson could do it all and not only that, she was successful at it, too! Her voice and sense of style in genres from rhythm and blues to pop was impeccable. Check out her great 1964 album, How Glad I Am.
Cannonball Adderley was one of jazz’s great alto sax players and was part of Miles Davis’ quintet for some of the greatest jazz recordings of all time, including Kind of Blue and Milestones.
While the album, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, is a great example of opposites attracting, Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderly is more about two strong personalities matching each other toe for toe. There is a wound up energy in both of their musical personalities that is so infectious, even during the slower ballads, like This Masquerade Is Over. While Cannonball sadly left us at the young age of 48 in 1975, Ms. Wilson stayed with us until just over a year ago, passing away at the age of 81 in December, 2018.
